Group classes

The small group classes are based on the fundamental Joseph Pilates exercises and are beneficial to both beginners and seasoned practitioners. I keep classes small to ensure I can give clients the attention they deserve and offer modifications and progressions to ensure individuals are treated as such and are challenged safely within their own range of motion. There is always more depth and precision to be found in practicing the fundamental moves.

Many of the exercises take place lying on your front, back or side. It is a full body and mind workout which involves concentration, precision and efficiency in movement. The BASI system allows classes to be structured using a block system which ensures every class incorporates a fundamental warm-up, abdominals, spinal articulation, bridging/full body integration, lateral flexion and rotation and back extension. I emphasize the importance of working through opposing ranges of motions to ensure you receive a full body workout. You might not be jumping around, but you will be working hard!

Within my classes I use resistance bands, small balls, magic circles, poles and foam rollers which can be used to aid and progress exercises. They emulate some of the exercises practiced on the apparatus Joseph Pilates created.

I thoroughly recommend Dawn’s excellent classes. She is a warm and supportive teacher and takes time to get to know you and the right way to encourage and motivate you. My back has felt so much better and my core strength and posture are improving thanks to her guidance and expertise. I always enjoy the session!

If a group class is not right for you either temporarily, as a personal preference or there isn’t a class at the right time, I offer private sessions in which I will create a personalised programme for you involving both the mat and apparatus.

My studio in Owlsfoot is a lovely, calm environment to take the time out of busy schedules and concentrate on yourself and your movement.
